Change on the arena

Since the start of the year, we've heard a lot of feedback about the changes to Classic Arena in general and the matchmaking algorithms in particular. That is why we want to shed light on the current state of affairs in this area.

As you may recall, in October 2020, the new matchmaking system was introduced to Classic Arena. It consisted of creating a list of opponents with roughly similar account levels and playing power. The new matchmaking system calculates, among other things, the power difference of players when building the list. While still not perfect, it helps create fair competition in the Bronze and Silver categories and avoid pairing players with vastly different backgrounds in the early stages of the arena. This matchmaking system also maintains the difficulty curve of the feature. The difference in power between accounts plays an important role in building up the lists of opponents in Bronze and Silver tiers. However, the Gold level is the most competitive. It therefore does not filter opponents according to the power of their account, but uses the current ranking in the arena as the main criterion. This is why, entering the Gold level, you may find it more difficult to progress, because you will encounter a much larger list of opponents.
In fact, the Gold tier is where the strongest players go, who have more or less perfected the skills of the champions, their equipment and the choice of their allies. This tier should be challenging, and those who manage to reach Gold tier should be prepared to keep fighting strong opponents to stay competitive and stay in tier.

Last fall, you all saw low level accounts appearing in the Classic Arena Gold tier, which made it possible for many players to reach Gold relatively easily in a short period of time. The reason these accounts appeared in the game is because we added more segments to the server, so that the load is better distributed and the server feels better during peak times. As a result, low level counts began to appear occasionally in all tiers (as the algorithms began to take these new segments into account to define opponents in all tiers). However, this was a temporary phenomenon, which could not last forever. We realized at the time that these accounts would disappear from gold, one day or another. It was rather a deviation than a new order of things. Over time, weaker accounts were gradually downgraded to lower tiers, and today, the Gold tier has become as competitive as expected.

Another important issue that we want to address is that of the missions of the referees, since the classic arena is closely linked to these, as well as many other activities in the game. 'arbitrator. Arbiter is no ordinary Champion, he is a high-level Legendary who has long been considered the ultimate reward in the game. Thus, missions should not be too easy to complete. Nevertheless, we sincerely believe that none of these missions should block your progress towards Arbiter. That is why we are closely monitoring the situation by checking the analyzes and data available to us to ensure that this is not a “mission impossible”.

Game moderation

Another thing we want to mention is the newly added moderation tool in the global chat room. We currently have a full team of in-game chat moderators and are not recruiting new moderators at this time. The in-game moderation feature is under development, and we will let you know before an upcoming expansion of the moderating team.

Champion + AI

Finally, we are finalizing the rebalancing of several champions and this rebalancing will be released in one of the next updates. Additionally, we are working on some AI improvements, and if all goes according to plan, they will also be included in the next patch.
